Big Gains.
Great Strides.
Inspired by the legacy of Walter Payton, we’re setting out to create a new Chicago institution.
Today, the Walter Payton Liver Center offers patients some of the most advanced medical and surgical treatment available in the world. As part of the University of Illinois Medical Center at Chicago, it includes dedicated rooms for patients and special amenities for their families. To deliver the best possible care, the Payton Center has assembled a team of the world’s best physicians and surgeons, and has placed into their hands the most advanced technology. The Payton Center seeks to create an environment that blends the best in patient care with all the tools needed to conduct the research necessary to transform and save lives.
In this mission, we are motivated by the individual whose name honors our work. Walter Payton led a life driven by a desire, a passion, for winning. His commitment to his team, his city and his family serves as a lesson for all of us as we approach the challenges in our lives.
With equal measures of grace and grit, he inspired us all in the way he played, worked, lived, and died.
While the staff of the Walter Payton Liver Center has achieved much, while we currently provide superior care, we know we can – and must – do so much more. That is why the Payton Project was created. To raise funds, to raise awareness, to engage our community, to inspire individuals, to provide hope for patients and their families, and to fulfill the promise and potential of medical science.
All of this is part of the Payton Project.
Here are the goals of the Payton Project.
To address the growing needs of our community, the Center is partnering with individuals, organizations and businesses who share our vision of enriching and saving lives. We are inviting you to join us in embracing the legacy of Walter Payton by providing the resources necessary to:
- Recruit and retain the world’s best medical staff
- Create an Endowed Chair for Clinical Research in Liver Disease in the Department of Medicine
- Create an Endowed Chair for Division Chief of Liver and Transplantation in the Department of Surgery
- Facilitate and support invaluable medical research
- Renovate, expand and enhance our research laboratories
- Increase education, prevention, early detection, and awareness through ongoing outreach programs
- Provide patient family housing
Now, it’s our turn to carry the ball.
The Walter Payton Liver Center is currently reaching out to community, government and business leaders, as well as local and national philanthropists. If you wish to support the efforts or would like to know more about the Walter Payton Liver Center, we invite you to contact us, and join our efforts to make certain the best care available is available to everybody.
